WC Rules - an opinion
Hello all,
I am pretty sure that the rules for the WC will mostly be the normal PL rules. But I just want to express some thoughts that I have on these rules:
1. Bonus points: I think giving a Team 1 point for a loss(with less than 10) and 2 points for a win is unbalanced. You lose 2 times and that's worth a win? If you want to keep Bonus points, give winning Teams 3 and losing team with less than 10 one point. I think that's a lot better than the current system. Also it's especially dumb for if a tie comes up, both teams get 1 point and if you lose by less than 10 you also get as many points? To me it seems pretty unfair.
2. Freewins. While I hope it doesn't happen much in the World Cup if at all, I would like to voice my opinion that 35 points are too much to give away. I would say the average win is probably around ~15 points which seems much better to me.
These are just suggestions that I would find good to discuss.
Regards,
Zwiebel

1. You may have a point, but that's how the system has worked through WCL, MKC, IL, and PL. Whether it's worth changing it now is kinda doubtful, but I suppose it might be worth it if the staff deem it necessary. The system has worked well for many years though.
2. 35-0 is a fair score for a freewin. It's the other team's fault for not being able to play the match, and there are plenty of matches which range from 1-60/70 point differences. Just take a look at all of the matches across the divisions and past seasons. It doesn't need to be lowered.

1 is interesting theory, yes. If any of you guys played Super Mario Strikers in the GCN the cups had that system too. I like you reasoning as well. It's worth a vote.

I agree with 1. It sounds similar to what happened with European football tournaments in the 90s. All major leagues gradually switched to giving 1 point per tie and 2 points per win, to 1 point per tie and 3 points per win.
It works better, and rewards winning more than anything else.
